Google Analytics is what I will call every Affiliate’s Buddy.

Being an Affiliate Marketer chances are that you already have a personal website, blog or YouTube channel. Google Analytics allows you to analyze your business data – be it your website traffic, conversion tracking or simply audience demographics. This information may ultimately influence your business decisions and greatly improve your efficiency as a marketer.

As of 2019, Google Analytics is the most widely used web analytics service on the web. Google Analytics provides an SDK that allows gathering usage data from iOS and Android app, known as Google Analytics for Mobile Apps. Google Analytics can be blocked by browsers, browser extensions, firewalls and other means.

How does Google Analytics Work?

Simply put, Google Analytics puts several lines of tracking code into the code of your website. The code records various activities of your users when they visit your website, along with the attributes (such as age, gender, interests) of those users. It then sends all that information to the GA (Google Analytics) server once the user exits your website.

Next, Google Analytics aggregates the data collected from your website in multiple ways, primarily by four levels:

  1. User level (related to actions by each user)
  2. Session level (each individual visit)
  3. Pageview level (each individual page visited)
  4. Event level (button clicks, video views, etc)

Do you want to see precisely which of your affiliate campaigns are more effective than others? UTM parameters will help you do just that and make sure your efforts are never gone in vain. Setting up UTMs with Google Analytics is simple and it will help you determine exactly which newsletter, YouTube video or guest blog post does your traffic come from.
